Innovative occupational therapy to empower people with neurological and vision conditions
Rise Up Occupational Therapy aims to provide cutting-edge evidence-based treatment for people with neurological conditions and low vision.
Rise Up OT specializes in care for people with conditions that few therapists are trained to treat. We serve people with low vision, stroke, concussion, and functional neurological disorders (FND), as well as offer ergonomic assessments.
The ultimate aim of occupational therapy is to get you back to doing activities you want, need, and even love to do. In therapy we work together to improve your symptoms and decrease your limitations. All that work is in service of making it easier for you to do activities you value.
The activities people choose as their goals are varied. Some people have the goal of being able to get ready in the morning or read a book, others want to return to cooking or their jobs, and still others want to be able to go out with friends, play with their grandchildren, or travel.
We accept private insurance as well as Medicare and MassHealth. We offer in-person appointments at our office in Amherst and offer appointments via telehealth for people throughout Massachusetts .
Our Expertise
Neurological Conditions
Stroke, FND, Concussion
You’ll benefit from working with a therapist who trained with and contributed to teams at Massachusetts General Brigham that study and develop neuro rehab treatment.
Our ongoing collaboration with neuroscientists and clinical specialists enables us to provide you with the latest advances in rehabilitation treatment.
We specialize in a limited number of neurological diagnoses so that we can refine treatment tools and resources for each group of clients.
Low Vision
The number of tools and devices to serve people with low vision has exploded in recent years. From reading text and labels, to identifying objects and colors, to operating home appliances, and orienting to unfamiliar spaces, there are tools that make all of these tasks easier and quicker.
We’ll evaluate your needs and you’ll try out options in the clinic to determine what suits you best. Then we’ll provide training to ensure that you’re confident in using these tools. We’ll also explore how simple changes in lighting, color contrast, and organization can make activities easier.
Ergonomic Assessments
Ergonomics is a term that describes how well an object or environment is designed to fit a person and increase comfort and safety. For example, think of the difference between sitting on a wooden bench and sitting in a chair with lumbar support and padded arm rests.
If you have pain that you suspect is related to body position or repetitive activities, an ergonomic assessment can be helpful. An OT will assess your body’s alignment, the environmental set up, and how you perform an activity, then provide recommendations to decrease pain.
